Privacy policy

This text describes what this site actually does — it was not taken from a template but checked against the source code.

This is a courtesy translation. The site is operated from Germany and the German version is the legally binding one: Datenschutzerklärung. Where the two differ, the German text applies.

The short version

This website sets no cookies, embeds no advertising or analytics services and loads no content from third-party servers. Fonts, images and sounds sit on the same server as the site itself. There is therefore no consent banner either: there is nothing to consent to.

There are two exceptions, and both are things you choose to do: sending an enquiry and subscribing to the newsletter. Both are described below. If you do neither, you leave nothing behind but the server logs.

Server logs

When you open the page, your browser transmits technically necessary data which the web server records in a log file:

This data is needed so that the page can be delivered and additionally serves to fend off attacks. The legal basis is Art. 6 (1) (f) GDPR (legitimate interest in secure operation). It is not combined with any other data. The logs are rotated daily and deleted automatically after 14 days.

Hosting

The site runs with a hosting provider whose servers are located in Germany. The provider processes the data named above on our behalf and on our instructions (Art. 28 GDPR).

Fonts

The fonts used (Bricolage Grotesque, DM Sans, JetBrains Mono) are served from our own server. There is no connection to Google Fonts, and no IP address is transmitted to Google.

Enquiry form

When you send the enquiry form, your details are processed and stored on our server. What is stored is whatever you filled in:

A timestamp is stored in addition and – to fend off automated bulk submissions – a non-reversible check value derived from your IP address. We do not store the IP address itself. The check value serves only to detect a large number of submissions from the same source within one hour; it becomes meaningless after an hour.

The enquiry is additionally sent as an e-mail to our mailbox and taken into our customer records, which run on a machine on our own premises. The legal basis is Art. 6 (1) (b) GDPR (steps prior to entering into a contract). We keep enquiries until the matter is concluded, and beyond that only as far as statutory retention periods require.

Should the transfer to our server fail, the page offers you the finished text to send from your own mail program. In that case we receive your details only if, and only to the extent that, you actually send the e-mail.

Newsletter

Signing up for the newsletter is processed and stored on our server. What is stored:

E-mail address
required — without it there is no newsletter
Name
optional, only for the salutation
Interests
optional, so that we do not bother you with things that do not fit
Timestamps
sign-up, confirmation and, where applicable, unsubscription — as evidence of your consent

Confirmation procedure (double opt-in). After you sign up we send you an e-mail with a confirmation link. Only when you click it do we add you to the list. If the confirmation does not arrive, we delete the details after 30 days.

Withdrawal and deletion. Every issue contains an unsubscribe link. One click is enough — and your address is thereby deleted completely from our database, together with name, interests and timestamps. We keep no suppression list and hold nothing back. An informal e-mail to the address above is equally sufficient. The legal basis is Art. 6 (1) (a) GDPR (consent), which you may withdraw at any time with effect for the future.

No external service provider. The addresses sit in a database on the same server in Germany that hosts this site. They are not passed on to third parties and not used for anyone else's advertising. Delivery goes through our e-mail provider (1&1 IONOS SE, Montabaur), which delivers the messages on our instructions. There are no tracking pixels and no click measurement — we cannot see whether or when you opened an issue.

Storage in your browser

This site stores nothing on your device. It sets no cookies, places nothing in local storage and reads nothing that may already be there. That is why there is no consent banner — there is nothing to consent to.

Until August 2026 the site remembered whether a short introduction at the playable table had already run, and asked permission beforehand. That introduction no longer exists; the markers are no longer created and the question has been dropped. Should old entries from that time still be in your browser, we neither read nor write them; you can delete them in your browser settings.

The playable table runs entirely in your browser. What you do there — which sounds you choose, what you record — never leaves your device and never reaches us.
